An orchestration of a piano piece from Debussy's second book of Preludes. In this transcription for chamber orchestra, I have sought to maintain a rustic feeling and enhance the tonal colour of the piece by frequent weaving of the melody between the instruments of the orchestra. 2. La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin Debussy arr. Mark Hartt-Palmer
This prelude was influenced by a poem of the same title from Leconte de Lisle's "Poèmes antiques". Debussy uses a pentatonic scale to conjour up a Scottish atmosphere. I have attempted to evoke the delicate sonorities of the original piano version by using a chamber-sized orchestra, with the melody woven between woodwind, horn and strings.
