This lyrical setting of the Ave Maria was written for the St Asaph Cathedral
Voluntary Choir. Many of the male members of this group are organists or choir
directors at other churches, so it is often difficult to have a full compliment
of tenors and basses to sing on Sunday mornings. This led to my decision to keep
Sunday eucharists with this choir limited to upper voices only and so this work
was written for such an occasion.
The Ave Maria was premiered at the launch of the CD 'All Angels Cry Aloud' in
St Asaph Cathedral on Friday 1st July 2016 by Dianne Platt (a member of the choir)
and Olivia Hunt.
Ave Maria was the first published piece in the world to have been typeset on Dorico!
