This setting of the Preces and Responses, scored for unaccompanied SATBB, uses subtle dissonances (added 9th chords and added 7th chords that are built on both major and minor chords) and a mix of parallel and non-parallel harmony to give this simple but effective offering to any church service. With its use of repeated thematic material contrasted with subtly altered reharmonisations to related keys, there is enough to keep both the performers and listeners alike engaged, whilst also being manageable by choirs with a range of abilities.
