This motet was composed shortly after Richard III’s body was discovered in Leicester in February 2013. It was first performed on July 6th 2013 in Buckfast Abbey by Counterpoint, directed by David Acres. It was also sung at the Battle of Bosworth commemorative evensong in Leicester Cathedral on August 22nd 2013, by the choir of Nottingham Cathedral, directed by Alex Patterson.

The work was performed several times as part of the proceedings for the king's reinterment. It was the introit for the Requiem Mass for King Richard III at Holy Cross Priory, Leicester on March 23rd, 2015, sung by the choir of Nottingham Cathedral. The service was led by His Eminence Cardinal Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster. It was also sung at Gloucester Cathedral evensong (directed by Adrian Partington) on March 20th, at Leicester Cathedral (directed by Christopher Ouvry-Johns) on March 23rd, and in the medieval Guildhall, York on March 26th.

For liturgical use, the work may be programmed using its subtitle 'O Lord, how many are my foes'. Alternative words from Psalms 3 and 110 are provided at bars 6 and 7 to replace Richard III's motto.
