'Alleluia' was written in 2026 for a non-auditioned choir I conduct in North Dorset.

At the time of composition, I had been rehearsing a wonderful piece called 'Hallelujah' which had been given to me by the Ukrainian composer, Evgenia Marchuk. Waking in the middle of the night, I had a completely different 'Alleluia' stuck in my head. The next morning I somehow recalled the entire section of music which I quickly wrote down. This isn't how I normally find myself writing music! After spending a short time developing different versions of the 'Alleluia' theme, I decided to compose a solo line that could be sung over the top of the choir. Having worked with psalm settings in the past, I took one of the 'alleluia psalms', 148, and adapted some of the words to fit the solo melody. Adding the soprano solo completed the piece and I very much hope that it is enjoyed by all!
