This anthem was composed for the choir of Holy Cross Collegiate Church, Crediton and their BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship live broadcast on the Feast of St Luke, Oct 18th, 2026. It was also sung later that day by the University of Exeter Choir, appropriately in their Chapel of St Luke.

The text is adapted from 2 Timothy 4. Timothy is recalling the words of Paul during the final days of his time on earth. Paul acknowledges the loyalty and caring nature of Luke who remained by his side; "only Luke is with me". In addition to this specific reference to Luke, the words of Paul and the various themes chosen for the anthem align with Luke's own character and beliefs; evangelism, faith, loyalty and compassion. These cornerstones of the Christian faith ensure the anthem is suitable for use throughout the liturgical year.

Key changes and a range of dynamics help to reflect the different moods of each part of the text to create interest and propel the anthem towards an exciting end!
